The Lady and the Law
cover

Brief description:

Gwen's husband was killed in a boating accident a year earlier, and she is just beginning to get herself out of her post-traumatic doldrums. A counselor at a nearby college where she is considering taking a few courses listens to her story and refers her to a colleague: a retired New York City police officer, now a teacher, whose partner was killed in the line of duty: They have something in common.

She decides to take the officer's introductory course in criminal justice, and her new friend refers her to a forensic detective in New York who informs her that her husband's former banking firm is being investigated by the U.S. Justice Department for fraud.

Perhaps that was behind her husband's “accident.” Before she knows it, she becomes involved in the investigation.
